Which controller works with the C-9 replacements and Action Floods?

According to the manufacturers, None!  They state on/off only, better yet, just stick with static, anything else voids their warranties.  Can't say as I blame them, after all they are a D/C device that they're trying to make work with A/C, and once you throw computer control at them, you have a recipe for disaster.  They're very easy to fry, believe me, I've cooked more than a few myself, and never, ever use shimmer on them.  You'd be amazed at how fast shimmer can make them fail.  Remember the following works for me, it may not work for you, I'm just sharing my experiences in the hope it'll clear up a few questions that keep getting asked.

Long story short.  For the C-9 replacements, D-Light controllers work, with a few special tweaks that the user can execute, whereas my LOR CTB08's don't.  I have been told that there will be a PIC upgrade exchange in the future for the older CTB08's, but I'm not holding my breath.  LOR has also stated that their Deluxe boards are firmware upgradeable, but I know several users that are still not pleased with how they work.  I've also spoken with several Animated Lighting users and they tell me that the LED replacements and floods work fine.  I do have plans to conduct a head-to-head comparison between the various controllers at the OK and Ark-La-Tex minis this spring and I'll post results once I have a definitive answer.  That is unless AL and LOR want to send me boards to use for testing. ;-)

Updated May 2007.

I took C-9 replacements and Action floods to the OKC Mini this past spring.  The whole group of us tried everything we could think of to get the C-9s to work with Tom's new version of LOR boards with no luck.  Sorry LOR board users, you're stuck with on/off only.  As in earlier tests D-Light works with a little tweaking, but at least they work.

As for the A/C floods, I purchased floods from Action the second they hit the market.  I did take them with me to the Shreveport mini last year to demo with my D-Light boards and although they worked, the fading action was very underwhelming.  They are perfect for a static application, we used the ones I bought over at the kids house, but with the introduction of the D-Light DCx16 controller last year, my LED flood question was resolved.  Using D/C to run a D/C device works a whole lot better than forcing a D/C device to work with A/C, just simple logic.  Now if I can find a US supplier for 48 LED MR-16s for less than $10 each, I be a really happy camper.

Updated June 2007.

Wirekat in OR has found a new vendor for the MR-16 floods and I should have them in hand for testing within the next two weeks.  Watch for updates!

I hope this information helps answer your questions, but this is my site and my opinions, I'm not an expert at anything, if you have questions or constructive comments e-mail me, and last but not least, don't post any of this information on the TCL site or boards.  Thanks
