After posting the MR-16 LED
Holders, I started thinking about how I could make a holder that
would be water-resistant or even water-proof. Well, guess
what!
Introducing----

CrazyLightLady super cheap water resistant MR-16 LED
Globes.
Supplies

Plastic Ornament Globe- Hobby Lobby has
these in various sizes and they're all super cheap.
Soldering pencil-The same one from the
other How-To
Glue gun-Mine's high temp, so every time
I use it I'm reminded of just how much hot glue burns.
Yikes!
MR-16 Socket and Bulb
Heat Shrink Tubing
Wire-If you read my Wire How-to, you know
why I seem to have any endless supply.
Aluminum Duck Tape-By far the absolute
best tape on the face of the planet for sticking and staying put
under all kinds of weather extremes.
Wire Strippers and other assorted
tools.
Assembly

Closer view of the globe-Save yourself a
trip and call Hobby Lobby first, they don't stock a lot of them, so
they may or may not be in stock.

Burn holes for the socket wires in one
side of the globe

Thread the socket wires through the holes
and spread some hot glue at the base of the socket. This will
seal the holes from the inside and also hold the socket firm against
the inside of the globe. Set the globe with the bulb facing
up-right while the glue cools

Turn the globe over and seal the outside
of the wire openings with hot glue.

Let the glue cool and add another coat of
hot glue to make sure you have a solid seal.

Run a bead of hot glue around the lip of
the globe half and join the two halves together.

Run another bead of hot glue around the
edge of the two joined halves.

Once the glue along the seam has cooled,
add more hot glue to the globe holder just to be safe.

Cut a length of foil tape and then cut it
in half. The tape is too wide to create a solid seal, but it
does work if you cut the tape to one inch width.

Place the tape around the globe at the
seam and make sure you push it down hard enough to remove any
wrinkles that will let moisture into the globe.

Slice power wires and heat shrink tubing
onto the socket wires.

That's it! All you need to do now
is decide how you want to use the flood. If you want to hang
it from a tree, all you have to do is tie a cord to the globe hanger
and wire it to a controller. |
